Moving is exciting, but it can also be stressful and expensive. Whether you’re buying a new home or renting, the cost of the building isn’t the only one to consider. You’ll also be paying money and time to move your things from one place to the next.
When you’re moving on a budget, you want to find ways to cut costs without risk. For instance, you
could pile everything you own onto your friend’s pick-up….but then again, you could also throw things in boxes willy nilly and hope nothing breaks.
In this article, we’ll be talking about risk-free ways to move cheaply. This means you’ll be saving money without worrying about anything getting lost or broken.
It can be easy to get into a “groove” with packing. You end up packing everything, not thinking about it. Then, when you’re unpacking, you get rid of things that you didn’t need or want.
Instead, save by getting rid of those things before you move. Don’t have everything put into a box right away. Go through your home and remove anything that doesn’t belong in your new home.
You can have a garage sale, sell things online, or donate them. The important thing is to make sure they don’t come with you.
This includes food. Let’s be honest, we all have a can of something sitting in our pantry. It sits there for ages, but we won’t use it. Only bring food with you to your new home if you intend to eat it within a week. Better yet, don’t bring any food at all.
Instead, use what you can. Get rid of anything that’s expired. Then, you can give the rest to a friend or a food pantry. Food is heavy, and it can save you a bundle to move with empty shelves.
It’s fun to furnish a new space. It can be tempting to buy things for your new home before you get there. If you can hold off, though, it can save you money.
It’ll save you money to move less, first of all. Secondly, you have a chance to make sure it fits in your new home. You’ll be able to avoid spending money on things that don’t work as well as you expected.
When it comes to doing the packing, you have two options. You can hire packers to come help, or you can do it yourself.
If you
hire packers,
make sure everything is clean and organized when they arrive. Packers charge by the hour. To save money with packers, make things as easy and efficient as possible for them.
If you choose to pack on your own, you can save by cutting down on packing supplies. Not only will this save you money, but it’s better for the environment. You can replace paper and bubble wrap with laundry and linens. Wrap things in sweaters or towels to pad them. You can also use storage bins or smaller dressers to move things rather than buying extra boxes.
Finally, do some research. Movers have busy seasons, too. This means that there are times of the year where it’ll cost less to hire packers and a truck. There are even days of the week that aren’t as busy for movers.
When you go into a move well-researched, everyone is happier. You can choose to move on a day where the packers won’t be overworked and you won’t spend as much.
Researching gives you a chance to make a plan, so your move will go as smoothly as possible.
Moving can be overwhelming, but there are ways to make it easier. Your sanity and your wallet don’t have to suffer to have a smooth move.
All the moving tips you can find come down to two things:
The first is key to saving money, the second to saving energy.
You should be happy and excited in your new home, not anxious. That’s why it’s important to find ways to take the stress out of moving so you can enjoy the ride.
Give us call today to learn how we can help make your move a stress-free one.
